BECOMING MORE CONTEMPLATIVE
To respond in a truly creative way, we need to develop a relationship with the world with an expectation that there will be surprise. In stillness, patiently being with whatever is our focus , we allow the subject (poem, image, object, person, life situation etc.) to reach beyond the intellect and into the unconscious level of our being, a place that can’t be accessed directly. We look at every aspect of a subject with an attitude of wonder and ponder it as an encounter with more than meets the eye.
This practice is a way of seeing an aspect of ourselves within this mystery, at the non verbal, heart level. The subject becomes alive with personal meaning, unique to us. It does not require any special knowledge, just a willingness to interact with words, sounds, colours, textures, forms and overall impressions. It is a process of gazing with soft eyes and receiving what is there, reflecting, responding and resting. We see and listen without our answer running and a growing sense that we are in close relationship subject to subject.
This capacity can be nurtured through meditation --i.e. learning to sit in stillness letting go of the many thoughts that tend to possess and drive us back into preconceptions and judgments.
CFCL provides an opportunity for people to receive support in their practice of meditation, whatever it might be, to come together weekly. This occurs each Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. This group sits in silence for the first 20 minutes or so. Afterwards people may talk for a few minutes about their practice or related concerns but then leave promptly to get on with their day.
As meditation is practiced one can become comfortable with this space of stillness and there lies a well of creativity that is reinforced by trust as it proves to be very real and consistent... Abstract Expressionist Artist, Linda Saccoccio
